Ruby Ceit by Aidan Gregory is a wonderfully nuanced fantasy that spans millennia, civilizations, and dimensions. Ruby Ceit is a beautiful, talented fashion designer in modern New York City. She is slowly becoming aware of her supernatural powers and her previous life as Sweteryun, a former good witch. As Ruby seeks to balance her life as a successful businesswoman with her personal romance and family, she begins to understand the role and power she has in balancing evil with good, not only here, in this reality of Earth, but across dimensions and the universe as a whole. She will find herself at the center of the war between light and darkness as she becomes aware of her role in preserving this balance throughout the cosmos.
Ruby Ceit is a beautifully written fantasy adventure that is a direct sequel to Swetreryun Girl, where readers are introduced to Ruby’s previous incarnation and her discovery of unique powers. It is not necessary to have read the first book to enjoy Ruby Ceit, as Aidan Gregory does an excellent job of dropping nuggets of information into the story to highlight background as well as motivation for modern-day Ruby. What I particularly enjoyed was the seamless melding of Ruby’s amazing abilities with her everyday lifestyle, emotions, and thoughts. She can transcend dimensions and make a difference in many universes simply by her decisions and actions. If you are a fan of metaphysical and cosmic forces and how they interact with our daily lives, this story will resonate with you. It is a wonderful blend of fantasy, sci-fi, and romance. Ruby's characterization and development are the highlights of the narrative. Although not my usual reading fare, I found this story riveting and highly recommend it.
